China approves eight more reactors, all Hualong One, including Hualong One 2.0 demonstration units

China's State Council approved eight new 1,127 MW Hualong One units across four provinces, worth more than 170 billion yuan. Some will demonstrate Hualong One 2.0, the next step of the design. China now runs 10 Hualong One reactors with 37 more approved or being built.

  • Sites: Taipingling 5 and 6 (Guangdong), Zhuanghe (Liaoning), Jinqimen (Zhejiang) and Laiyang (Shandong).
  • Builders include CGN, CNNC's China National Nuclear Power and SPIC.
  • Investment above 170 billion yuan, about $25 billion.
  • China targets 110 GW of nuclear by 2030 and 200 GW by 2035.
