Chainlink oracle network launches on Ethereum mainnet
Chainlink LabsCross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP)
Chainlink went live on Ethereum mainnet on 30 May 2019, giving smart contracts a way to pull in outside data through independent node operators whose answers are combined. The network started with price feeds (ETH/USD) and had passed three independent security audits.
- Chainlink's oracle design uses multiple independent node operators whose price data is combined, preventing a single party from posing as many nodes.
- The network passed three independent security audits before launch and included a threshold signature scheme for efficient large-scale operation.
- Initial feeds were price data starting with ETH/USD, with plans to expand to seven data sources and twenty-one total nodes.
