Block cuts its workforce nearly in half, to just under 6,000, citing AI tools
Jack Dorsey said Block would shrink from over 10,000 people to just under 6,000 in a single round of cuts, arguing that AI tools and smaller, flatter teams change how the company should be run. The cut came after a quarter of 24% gross profit growth.
- More than 4,000 jobs cut in one round rather than repeated smaller layoffs.
- Severance: 20 weeks of pay plus one week per year of service, six months of health cover and $5,000.
- Q4 2025 gross profit rose 24% year on year to $2.87B.
