Current obstacles

Physics limits

Sintering temperature limitsSintering requires temperatures above 1,000°C to form dense magnets. This consumes significant energy and limits processing speed.

Raw materials

Rare-earth oxides and metals

Rare-earth oxides and iron powder are sourced from external suppliers. Metals are produced on site or sourced as intermediate products.

Powder metallurgy

Sintering process

Rare-earth metals and iron are alloyed, ground into fine powder, pressed into shape and sintered at high temperature to form dense, hard magnets.

Application-specific magnets

Different magnet grades are tailored for EV traction motors (high coercivity, high-temperature stability) versus other applications.
