Humanoid robot
A general-purpose robot with a roughly human body plan: two legs, a torso, two arms and hands.
- The bet is that one body can use spaces, tools and workflows built for people, so a single design could do many jobs without rebuilding the site.
- A human-like body also makes video of people and teleoperation data easier to reuse, because the robot's joints map onto the person's.
- Two legs are inherently unstable, so the robot must actively balance every moment, and batteries typically last roughly 2–4 hours of work.
- For many fixed tasks a wheeled base or a plain arm is cheaper and more reliable; the humanoid case rests on generality paying for itself.
