Current obstacles

  • Speed versus fixed automationDigit must move totes fast enough to replace a person or a conveyor. Walking and grip speed set the limit.
  • Working safely beside peopleProving a balancing robot is safe near people is the main gate to wider use.

Physics limits

  • Two legs are never at restA biped has a tiny footprint, so it must keep adjusting to stay upright; a power or software fault means a fall. Wheels and four legs can simply stop.
  • Walking costs more energy than rollingEach step accelerates and stops the legs and lifts the body. Per metre, legged robots use several times more energy than wheeled carts, which shortens runtime per charge.
  • Battery energy per kilo is fixed by chemistryLithium-ion stores about 250 Wh per kg. More runtime means more battery weight, which the legs must then carry, so gains come slowly from better cells.

How it works

Legs

Backward-bending legs

Legs from the Cassie robot keep most weight near the hips and use springy parts, so it steps and recovers balance efficiently.

Hands

Grippers made for totes

Instead of human-like hands, Digit uses grippers shaped for totes. They are simpler, stronger and more reliable.

Fleet

Arc software

Arc connects robots to the customer's warehouse systems, sends them jobs and tracks uptime for billing.

About Agility Robotics

The team behind Digit

Agility Robotics

Digit humanoid, Arc fleet software

Agility Robotics builds Digit, a two-legged robot that moves totes and boxes in warehouses and factories. It runs a robot factory in Salem, Oregon. In June 2026 it agreed to go public by merging with Churchill Capital Corp XI, at a $2.5B pre-deal value.

  • Digit reports 65,000+ working hours at 9 customer sites, including GXO, Schaeffler, Toyota and Mercado Libre.
  • The listing (ticker AGLT) should raise about $620M. Contracted Digit v5 orders top $300M.
  • Digit v5 is built to work safely near people without fences, a safety approval the field is waiting for.
