Physics limits

Guessing a hash

Mining means hashing a block header with a changing number until the result falls below a target; it is pure trial and error, trillions of guesses a second.

Chips

Hundreds of single-purpose chips

Hash boards carry many custom chips that only compute SHA-256, wired in series to share power efficiently.

Cooling

Water loops for top models

Hydro models pump coolant across the hash boards, carrying heat away faster than fans so chips can run denser; the heat can even warm buildings.

Economics

Electricity is the bill

A machine earns a share of new bitcoin in proportion to its hashes; profit is that share minus power cost, so J/TH decides which machines stay on.
