The brief
- About 17.2 million SWU a year of enrichment across four plants (end-2025); Eunice alone covers about a third of US demand.
- Adding 700,000 SWU in Eunice in 2025-27, then a new 2.1 million SWU plant: construction 2029, first output 2032.
- Licensed in the US to enrich up to 10% U-235; a 27 t/yr HALEU plant is planned at Capenhurst, UK, for 2031.
Technical approach
Spin uranium gas to sort isotopes
Uranium hexafluoride gas spins in fast rotors; the slightly lighter U-235 is drawn off near the axis. Machines come from ETC, co-owned with Orano.
Grow capacity one hall at a time
Eunice has 64 cascades. New ones start producing as soon as each is installed, so capacity rises in steps instead of all at once.
Fuel enriched to 5-10%
First US commercial run at 8.5% U-235 in Dec 2025. LEU+ lets reactors run longer and is the starting feed for HALEU plants.
Up to 20% U-235 in the UK
Capenhurst Advanced Fuels Facility, co-funded with £196M from the UK government: up to 27 t of HALEU a year, enough for up to 30 advanced reactors.
