The brief
- Trina is one of the world's largest solar module makers, with 50+ GW annual production capacity.
- It holds the efficiency record for perovskite-silicon tandem solar modules at 29.2% full-area efficiency (June 2026).
- Trina has signed a patent licensing agreement with Oxford PV and is scaling tandem cell production toward commercial volume.
Technical approach
High-bandgap top layer
Perovskite absorbs short-wavelength light (blue-green) where silicon is weak, passing longer wavelengths to the silicon layer below.
Crystalline silicon base
Trina uses proven crystalline silicon solar cells as the bottom junction, with decades of manufacturing experience and stable cost.
Vertically stacked junctions
Transparent perovskite contacts and recombination layers couple the two semiconductors; electrons flow in series, using more of the solar spectrum.
Industrial-size modules
Trina manufactures full-size modules, not just lab cells, reaching 907 W per module at 29.2% efficiency (TÜV SÜD certified, June 2026).
