Trina Solar sets new record for perovskite-silicon tandem solar module efficiency at 29.2%
Trina SolarPerovskite-Silicon Tandem Modules
Trina Solar achieved a record 29.2% full-area efficiency on an industrial-size perovskite-silicon tandem solar module (907 W), certified by TÜV SÜD. The module pairs a perovskite top layer with a crystalline silicon bottom layer, capturing more of the solar spectrum than single-junction cells. Trina is piloting production lines to scale tandem modules to commercial volume.
- 29.2% full-area module efficiency is the highest recorded for tandem-junction industrial modules
- 907 W module power per standard test conditions; single-junction silicon modules typically max at 650 W
- Perovskite-silicon tandem cell efficiency in labs reached 32.6%, approaching theoretical limits of dual-junction design
- Trina licensed technology from Oxford PV and manufactures at scale; others (Hanwha, First Solar) are also developing tandem modules
