The brief
- Serves 4,000+ research institutions; Emotiv says over 20,000 published studies used its devices.
- In 2026 it opened its first big fundraise in 15 years, seeking $250M at a $2B valuation (not yet reported closed).
- Registered a Beijing company in March 2026 to sell directly in China after a decade of distributors.
Technical approach
EEG without a lab cap
Saline-soaked felt or dry polymer sensors pick up microvolt brain signals through hair or in the ear, so recordings take minutes to set up, not an hour of gel.
From 14 channels to two
The 14-channel EPOC X covers the head for research; MN8 and MW20 earbuds use two channels near the ear for everyday tracking.
A large pool of brain recordings
Emotiv says it holds over 100 million minutes of EEG from users in many countries, which it uses to train AI models of mental states.
Metrics and brain control
EmotivPRO and the Emotiv App turn raw signals into scores such as focus, stress and fatigue, and let trained users trigger commands with mental effort.
