The brief
- DiDi serves 40M+ rides/day in China. R2 robotaxi in trial in Beijing and Guangzhou since August 2026.
- R2 co-developed with GAC Aion: 33 sensors, tri-domain platform with 2,000+ TOPS computing power.
- Production 74% cheaper than prior generation; targets rapid scaling across Chinese cities.
Technical approach
Multi-sensor fusion
33 sensors (cameras, LiDAR, radar) fused in tri-domain architecture. Recognizes road users, obstacles, markings in dense urban traffic.
Tri-domain platform
Central processor handles perception, prediction, planning in real time. 2,000+ TOPS supports AI workloads for scene understanding and trajectory.
Mass-production design
Designed for manufacturing scale, not retrofit into existing vehicles. Costs 74% lower than prior generation robotaxis.
Purpose-built platform
Co-developed with GAC Aion for robotaxi service. Interior layout and controls optimized for unmanned passenger operation.
