The brief
- Conditional approval in Japan (Feb 2026) for ReHeart, world's first iPSC cardiomyocyte sheet therapy for ischemic heart failure.
- Investigator trial of eight patients: all showed improvement, no adverse events; commercial launch planned autumn 2026.
- Targets severe ischemic heart failure patients who have exhausted conventional treatment options or surgery.
Technical approach
Thin cardiomyocyte patch
ReHeart is a 4–5 cm diameter, 0.1 mm thick sheet of iPSC-derived heart muscle cells that can be applied directly to the surface of the heart.
Donor-derived iPSCs
Cardiomyocytes are differentiated from donor iPSCs, which can develop into nearly all tissue types and offer a renewable cell source.
Repair and electrical function
The transplanted sheet integrates with host heart tissue, restoring myocardial function and electrical conductivity to improve cardiac output.
