Tumours and large polyps shed cells into the bowel. A home kit captures a whole stool sample, which is mailed to the lab.
Cologuard Plus checks three DNA markers that carry abnormal methyl tags in colon tumour cells, a change healthy lining cells rarely show.
It also measures human haemoglobin, since tumours bleed. Combining DNA and blood signals catches more cancers than a blood-only stool test (FIT).
