Physics limits

Battery cell energy densityLithium-ion cells max out around 300 Wh/kg. Further improvements require new chemistries (LFP, solid-state), each with tradeoffs in cost or lifespan.
Charging speed plateauAbove 350-400 kW, thermal limits of the battery itself prevent faster charging. 18-minute 10-80% may be near-optimal for Li-ion.

Voltage

800V delivers power faster

Standard EV chargers use 400V. E-GMP's 800V design reduces charging time by 40% at the same watt level, and enables faster home charging with smaller wires.

Modular architecture

Shared platform across three brands

E-GMP is used by Hyundai (Ioniq), Kia (EV6, EV9, EV5) and Genesis (GV60, Electrified). Shared parts reduce cost while each brand tailors style and features.

Manufacturing

US production at Metaplant

Metaplant Georgia, opened October 2024, builds E-GMP vehicles for North America. Produces Ioniq 5, Ioniq 9, and Kia EVs.
