Waymo opens driverless rides to the public in Denver, San Diego and Tampa

WaymoWaymo One

Waymo opened rider-only service, with no one in the driver's seat, to the public in Denver, San Diego and Tampa, bringing it to 14 cities. Riders are let in gradually from waitlists, where tens of thousands signed up in each city. The launches use Waymo's newest vehicle platform and next-generation driving system.

  • Service areas were drawn around everyday trips such as errands and commuting; Waymo did not mention airport or freeway access.
  • Waymo cites 94% fewer serious-injury crashes than human drivers over the same distance (its own analysis).
