Volvo orders two 9,000-ton Giga Press machines for Slovakia EV plant

Volvo Cars ordered two OL 9000 CS Giga Press machines from Idra for its new EV manufacturing plant in Košice, Slovakia, scheduled to begin production in 2026. The machines will cast large aluminium chassis and body panels in single pieces.

• Volvo Košice plant will produce up to 250,000 EVs per year
• Two 9,000-ton Giga Press machines will enable single-piece casting
• Represents major adoption of gigacasting beyond Tesla for EV production
