VITAL-H trial begins at University of Texas Health Science Center, largest PROSPR award at $38M

ARPA-H/PROSPR (Proactive Solutions for Prolonging Resilience)

The VITAL-H (Validation and Intervention Testing for Aging, Longevity and Healthspan) project led by Elena Volpi at UT San Antonio began enrollment in a phase 3 hybrid clinical trial testing three repurposed FDA-approved drugs (dapagliflozin, rapamycin, semaglutide) for aging. This is the largest single PROSPR award, recruiting 726 adults ages 60-65 to evaluate whether intrinsic capacity—a measure of physical and mental functionality—improves with treatment.
