Tokamak Energy named magnet systems partner for the UK's STEP fusion power plant programme
UK Fusion Energy named Tokamak Energy systems partner for magnets on STEP, the UK's prototype fusion power plant, under a 70 million pound contract running from March 2026 to March 2029. It will work on magnet architecture, tokamak systems engineering and plasma-facing components, drawing on its ST40 and Demo4 test machines.
- Tokamak Energy's 24-month contract (March 2026–2029) covers magnet architecture, tokamak systems engineering, and plasma-facing integration for STEP.
- Tokamak will leverage experience from its ST40 spherical tokamak and Demo4 HTS magnet system for engineering validation and testing.
- The contract supports testing of magnetic configuration, coil forces, plasma stability, and quench behaviour under realistic STEP operating conditions.
