QuEra is chosen to deliver a neutral-atom testbed to the UK's National Quantum Computing Centre

QuEra ComputingAquila and gate-based systems

QuEra was selected to build a neutral-atom testbed at the UK's National Quantum Computing Centre in Harwell, Oxfordshire, funded through the government's Small Business Research Initiative scheme. The machine features qubit shuttling and error correction, with a zoned architecture moving atoms between storage, processing and readout areas, and was due to be running in early 2025.

  • Qubit shuttling technology allows atoms to move while maintaining quantum state for nearby entanglement.
  • Zoned architecture similar to classical Von-Neumann systems—separate storage, processing, readout zones.
  • World's first testbed focused on qubit shuttling and error correction in neutral-atom systems.
  • Funded by NQCC/SBRI with early 2025 operational target; gives UK first-mover advantage in fault-tolerant neutral atoms.
