Quaise moves millimetre-wave drilling tests from the lab to a field site in Texas

Quaise EnergyMillimetre-wave drilling

Quaise conducted its first field test of millimeter-wave drilling near Houston in February 2025, using a gyrotron beam to melt and vaporize rock instead of conventional grinding. The company previously reached a 4-inch hole 40 inches deep in lab tests during 2024; the field trial demonstrates the technology works outside controlled laboratory conditions and supports progression to larger-scale tests elsewhere in Texas.
