Nvidia is in talks to buy Reflection AI or deepen its investment, the FT reports
Nvidia is negotiating to acquire Reflection AI, a US maker of open-weight AI models, or to invest more in it, according to a Financial Times report from October 10. One structure under discussion is an acqui-hire, where Nvidia hires the team and licenses the technology, which can avoid a lengthy antitrust review. Nvidia has already invested about $800 million in the company, and no agreement has been announced.
- Options include a takeover, an acqui-hire with a technology licence, or a deeper equity stake that could come with more chips and computing resources.
- Reflection was last valued at $25 billion in a March funding round, according to the report.
- Sources differ on the stage: the FT describes a deal that could come within weeks, while one person familiar with the matter called the talks early.
- Neither Nvidia nor Reflection has commented, and the talks could still fall apart.
