NRC grants TRISO-X the first licence to make HALEU fuel at a Category II plant

X-energy/TRISO-X TX-1 fuel plant

The NRC issued TRISO-X a 40-year special nuclear material licence covering HALEU fuel manufacturing at TX-1 and the planned TX-2, the first new NRC-licensed fuel facilities in over 50 years. The review finished three months ahead of schedule; production can begin once TX-1 is built and passes a final NRC inspection.

• Initial term 40 years; covers TX-1 (under construction) and TX-2 (in design).
• TX-1 will be the first Category II fuel facility in the US.
• Supports X-energy's 11 GW pipeline, about 144 Xe-100 reactors.
