Northrop signs $3B in frameworks to add PAC-3 MSE motors and boost THAAD parts output
Northrop GrummanSolid rocket motor production ramp
The Pentagon signed two multi-year framework agreements with Northrop, in coordination with Lockheed Martin, worth more than $3 billion. About $2 billion makes Northrop a second source of PAC-3 MSE rocket motors and expands ignition safety device output; about $1 billion raises THAAD component production over seven years. They support the goal of tripling PAC-3 and quadrupling THAAD output.
- ~$2B: second source for PAC-3 MSE solid rocket motors, plus ignition safety devices
- ~$1B: more THAAD mid-body shells, muzzle covers and rail car assemblies over seven years
- Allegany Ballistics Laboratory: tactical motor capacity doubled since 2021, tripled by 2027
- Over $2B invested in munitions since 2019, more than $1B of it in rocket motors
