ModernaRespiratory vaccines

NEJM published the Phase 3 COVE trial of Moderna's mRNA-1273 in 30,420 volunteers: 11 COVID-19 cases in the vaccine group versus 185 on placebo, demonstrating 94.1% efficacy. All 30 severe cases, including one death, occurred in the placebo group; side effects were mostly transient arm pain and fatigue.

  • From July 27, 2020, through November 25, 2020: 196 symptomatic cases at least 14 days post-vaccination (11 vaccinated, 185 placebo).
  • No safety concerns or evidence of vaccine-enhanced respiratory disease (VAERD) were identified.
  • Results were published in December 2020; the vaccine was co-developed with the National Institutes of Health.
