FDA grants emergency use authorization to Moderna's COVID-19 mRNA vaccine
The FDA authorized Moderna's mRNA-1273 COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use on December 18, 2020, the second vaccine cleared after Pfizer-BioNTech. The vaccine was co-developed with the National Institutes of Health; in the 30,000-person Phase 3 trial it was 94.1% effective against symptomatic COVID-19.
