Nature: man with paralysis types 90 characters a minute by imagining handwriting, decoded from Utah arrays
Blackrock NeurotechUtah array / NeuroPort
A BrainGate study decoded attempted handwriting from Utah arrays in the motor cortex of a man paralyzed by spinal cord injury, converting it to text in real time. He typed 90 characters a minute at 94.1% accuracy, or 99% with autocorrect.
- Decoded brain signals from attempted handwriting to typed text
- Achieved 90 characters per minute (18 words per minute)
- 94.1% raw accuracy, 99% with autocorrect
- Significantly faster than previous BCI experiments
