Mercedes-Benz launches vehicle-to-grid charging in Germany, paying owners for connected hours
Mercedes-Benz has started selling MB.Charge Home Pro Intelligent in Germany, a package that lets electric-car owners send power from their car back to the grid. The initiative is run with The Mobility House, and the first vehicles are the all-electric GLC and the new C-Class.
- Hardware: the ChargeLine BiDi, an 11 kW bidirectional DC wallbox priced at €2,990, developed with EcoG and Zhejiang EV-Tech.
- Pay: owners earn €0.1175 (about $0.13) for each hour the car stays connected to the wallbox.
- Launch offer: the first 500 customers get a €1,000 discount, valid until the end of March 2027, plus a €250 voucher for MB.Charge Public charging.
- Limit: at first only households without rooftop solar, because the rules on whether PV-charged batteries could affect feed-in tariffs are unsettled.
- Grid operators have until the end of September 2027 to implement the new rules; other countries and models (GLA, GLB, EQS, CLA) are planned by over-the-air update.
