Lockheed Martin extends its Alpha launch deal through 2031, for up to 25 launches on Block II
Firefly extended its launch agreement with Lockheed Martin by two years, to 2031, covering up to 25 dedicated Alpha launches. The flights will use Alpha Block II, an upgraded version meant to be easier to build, more reliable and producible at a higher rate, for payloads in the 1,000 kg class.
- Up to 25 launches is a ceiling, not a firm order count.
- Block II targets national-security and commercial missions, including responsive launch on short notice and hypersonic testing.
- Firefly, Lockheed Martin and Seagate Space are also working on launching Alpha from Seagate's Gateway offshore platform.
- CEO Jason Kim pitched Block II at a gap in the market: high launch demand but scarce mid-size capacity and few launch sites.
