Lilly's retatrutide meets Phase 3 goals in two more obesity trials, TRIUMPH-2 and TRIUMPH-3

Eli LillyRetatrutide

Lilly reports that its triple agonist retatrutide met the primary endpoint in TRIUMPH-2, in adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity, and in TRIUMPH-3, in severely obese adults with established heart disease. Weight loss at 80 weeks reached about 21% and 23% at the top doses. The drug is not approved anywhere; Lilly plans to file with the FDA in Q1 2027.

  • TRIUMPH-2 (1,152 adults with type 2 diabetes): weight loss of 12.7%, 19.1% and 20.8% at 4, 9 and 12 mg after 80 weeks, against 4.0% on placebo.
  • TRIUMPH-3 (1,949 adults with BMI 35 or more and cardiovascular disease): 21.6% and 22.6% at 9 and 12 mg after 80 weeks, against 3.2% on placebo.
  • HbA1c fell 1.4 to 1.6 points in TRIUMPH-2 (from a 7.7% baseline), against 0.2 on placebo.
  • Cardiovascular events in TRIUMPH-3 were not statistically significant (MACE-3 hazard ratio 1.12, 95% CI 0.64 to 1.96).
  • Lilly is finishing the manufacturing data package before a BLA submission in Q1 2027; full results are not yet in a peer-reviewed journal.
