Lilly to present TRIUMPH-2 at EASD 2026: retatrutide gave large weight loss and A1C cuts in obesity with type 2 diabetes
Lilly will present Phase 3 TRIUMPH-2 at EASD on 30 September 2026. In adults with obesity or overweight and type 2 diabetes, weekly retatrutide injections cut weight by up to an average of 20.8% (22.5 kg) and lowered A1C by up to 1.6 percentage points at 80 weeks. People with diabetes usually lose less weight on these drugs, which makes the figure notable.
- Retatrutide activates three hormone receptors: GIP and GLP-1 (appetite and insulin) plus glucagon, which raises energy use.
- 'Up to' figures are from the best-performing dose; lower doses gave less.
- Lilly plans to file for approval in the first quarter of 2027.
- A1C is the average blood sugar over about three months; a 1.6-point fall is large for a diabetes drug.
