John Deere takes full ownership of GUSS Automation, maker of autonomous orchard sprayers

John Deere acquired the remaining stake in GUSS Automation, the Kingsburg, California maker of autonomous orchard and vineyard sprayers, building on a joint venture begun in 2022 with a 40% stake. More than 250 GUSS machines have sprayed 2.6 million acres over 500,000 autonomous hours; one operator supervises up to eight robots.
- GUSS machines use GPS, LiDAR and proprietary software; one supervisor manages up to eight vehicles simultaneously.
- 250+ machines deployed globally, accounting for 2.6 million acres sprayed over 500,000 autonomous hours.
- GUSS retains its brand, employees and Kingsburg factory; sprayers sell exclusively through John Deere dealers.
