India's cabinet approves the first module of the Bharatiya Antariksh Station, targeted for 2028

The Union Cabinet widened the Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme to include building and launching BAS-01, the first module of India's own space station, by December 2028. Funding rose by Rs 11,170 crore to a total of Rs 20,193 crore.

  • Eight missions planned by 2028: four under Gaganyaan by 2026, then four to test station technology.
  • Goal: an operational station by 2035 and a crewed Moon landing by 2040.
  • BAS-01 is one of five planned modules.
