HP ships first Multi Jet Fusion systems at Rapid, a decade after entering printers
HP announced the availability of its first Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) 3D printers at the Rapid exhibition in Orlando in May 2016. The systems used 30,000 thermal inkjet nozzles to print nylon parts at speeds claimed to be 10 times faster than competing powder-bed technologies, with improved precision and lower cost than earlier offerings.
- MJF uses 30,000 thermal inkjet nozzles to fuse powder across the entire bed in parallel, not with a single nozzle.
- Printing speeds reach 1,000 gears in three hours; initial systems cost over $100,000.
- HP aimed the technology at firms with high throughput of prototypes and short-run production.
