Google introduces Gemini agent platform for universal work across devices
Google announced Gemini at Work 2026, a new agentic AI platform that aims to handle knowledge work autonomously. The agent works across web, mobile, desktop, command line, and enterprise apps like Slack and Microsoft 365. Crucially, it orchestrates task completion across multiple steps and can create sub-agents or persistent 'coworker agents' with their own email addresses. It routes work between Google's own Gemini models and Anthropic's Claude, with other providers planned.
- Unified interface: one prompt box for chat, autonomous tasks, code, scheduled work, and event triggers
- Multi-model orchestration: routes each job to the appropriate model, starting with Gemini and Claude
- Persistent execution: Runs in the cloud with continuous memory across devices; work survives laptop closure
- Enterprise connectors: Salesforce, ServiceNow, Jira, Snowflake, BigQuery and any MCP server; coworker agents see only shared data
- TPU 8i infrastructure delivers 80% better price-performance; industry-specialized versions (financial services, legal) in preview
