General Fusion reaches 1.1 keV electron temperature on LM26, advancing magnetized target fusion
General FusionLM26 (Lawson Machine 26)
General Fusion and the UK Atomic Energy Authority jointly announced the first achievement of 1 keV electron temperature using magnetized target fusion. Thomson scattering diagnostics measured 1.1 keV just before peak compression, with supporting measurements by absolute extreme ultraviolet spectroscopy. This result advances the path toward Lawson criterion and demonstrates the viability of the MTF approach.
- First 1 keV achievement with low-speed mechanical compression in magnetized target fusion
- Thomson scattering measured 1.1 keV; AXUV diagnostic confirmed approximately 1.2 keV at peak
- Ion heating also observed at 0.46 keV, roughly double the starting temperature
- Technical paper co-authored with UKAEA submitted for peer review
- Next milestones: 10 keV and Lawson criterion
