Electric Coin Company development team departs; forms ZODL

Zcash (Electric Coin Co / Zcash Foundation / ZODL)

The Electric Coin Company development team, including CEO Josh Swihart, departed in January 2026 following governance disputes with the Bootstrap Project board. The team announced formation of Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL) to continue protocol development work.
