Coinbase relaunches Coinbase Wallet as Base App, a social and trading 'everything app'

At its 'A New Day One' event, Coinbase turned its self-custody wallet into Base App, mixing a Farcaster social feed, encrypted chat, mini-apps, payments and trading in one app built around its Base network. The bet was that people would stay longer in a wallet that felt like a social network.

• Beta opened to waitlisted users on 16 July 2025.
• Social feed ran on the Farcaster protocol; creators could turn posts into tradable tokens via Zora.
• Encrypted XMTP messaging carried chats and money transfers.
• Each user got a Base Account, a smart wallet that works across apps.
