Circle ends USDC support on the Tron blockchain, citing risk management

Circle stopped minting USDC on the Tron blockchain with immediate effect, citing its risk-management assessment of which chains are suitable for USDC. Circle Mint customers had until February 2025 to move USDC on Tron to other chains or redeem it for dollars.

• Effective immediately: Circle halted new USDC minting on Tron as of 21 February 2024.
• Transition period: Circle Mint customers could move existing USDC to supported chains or redeem for USD through February 2025.
• Retail users: had to use third-party exchanges to transfer USDC off Tron, as direct transfers from Circle Mint were blocked.
• Rationale: enterprise-wide risk assessment involving business, compliance, and other functions.
