Boston Dynamics opens its Atlas training center at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Georgia, starting with parts sequencing

Boston DynamicsAtlas

Boston Dynamics opened a training and test centre for its Atlas humanoid at Hyundai's Metaplant America car factory near Savannah, Georgia. Atlas starts with logistics work, preparing parts and placing them in the order the assembly line needs them, before moving to component assembly, planned for 2030. Training inside a working plant is meant to expose the robots to the real conditions they will face.

  • The centre moves to a facility about 10 times larger in 2027, also exploring aerospace, semiconductors, logistics, food and life-science uses.
  • Hyundai plans to deploy 25,000 Atlas robots across Hyundai and Kia plants, and a US factory able to build 30,000 robots a year is planned.
  • Later tasks include repetitive motions and physically demanding work such as lifting heavy loads.
