Anthropic open-sources the Model Context Protocol for connecting AI to tools and data

AnthropicClaude Code

Anthropic open-sourced the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a standard way to connect AI assistants to data sources such as file stores, business tools and code environments. Instead of custom integrations per data source, developers expose data through MCP servers that any MCP-aware AI application can use. Block, Apollo, Zed and Replit are early adopters.

  • MCP is open standard for secure two-way connections between AI and data sources, tools, environments
  • Replaces fragmented custom integrations with unified, scalable protocol
  • Developers can expose data through MCP servers that any MCP-aware application uses
  • Early adopters include Block, Apollo, Zed, Replit; enables better code generation and fewer iterations
