Agility Robotics and FORT Robotics agree to co-develop the safety system for Digit 5
Agility Robotics and FORT Robotics signed a memorandum of understanding on October 1 to build the safety architecture for Digit 5, Agility's next humanoid. The two companies have jointly developed an off-robot safety interface, and FORT already builds the emergency-stop pendant that Digit uses during setup and maintenance.
- The Offboard Safety Bridge links Digit to external safety systems and was developed by both companies.
- The pendant sled, built by FORT for Digit's tablet, combines emergency-stop and enabling-device functions as a redundant manual override.
- Digit 5's planned onboard features include safe human detection, safety cues and safe motion control.
- Earlier Digit robots have logged more than 65,000 hours of operation at sites including Schaeffler, GXO and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada.
- The MoU is not yet a binding deal: the companies still have to negotiate definitive agreements covering joint hardware and deployment support.
