Staff still load and unloadThe robot saves walking but not handling; adding arms through Kinisi is Bear's answer, still unproven in service.
Narrow and cluttered venuesOlder restaurants with tight aisles and steps exclude bigger models; Servi Q targets them, with rollout dates still pending.
Physics limits
Wheels need flat floorsA wheeled robot this light and tall cannot climb stairs or steep ramps without tipping or spilling, so multi-level venues need lifts or one robot per floor.
Liquids slosh when you brakeSoup and drinks set a ceiling on acceleration and cornering: braking too hard spills them, so delivery speed stays near walking pace or slower.
Crowds confuse sensorsMoving people, reflective glass and dark surfaces can hide obstacles from lasers and cameras, so the robot must slow or stop often at busy times.
How it works
4 parts
Sensing
LiDAR and cameras
A spinning laser scanner measures distances to walls and furniture while cameras and depth sensors catch low or moving obstacles like children and bags.
Map
Learns the room once
At setup the robot maps the dining room; afterwards it locates itself against that map and plans a path to any table.
Trays
Trays and a touchscreen
Staff load two trays and a bus tub, about 10 kg each, then pick a table on a 7-inch touchscreen; the robot drives there and returns when emptied.
Fleet
Robots share the floor
Multi-robot software keeps several Servis from blocking each other, and a cloud dashboard tracks trips and uptime.
Silicon Valley maker of Servi, a self-driving robot that carries food and dirty dishes in restaurants, hotels and care homes. LG Electronics has owned a controlling 51% since January 2025 and merged its own CLOi service robots into it.
Says it has shipped more than 16,000 service robots worldwide; customers include Denny's, Marriott and Four Seasons.
Signed a deal in June 2026 to buy UK humanoid start-up Kinisi, to add arms and hands to its delivery robots.
