The brief
- 63M+ Safe accounts and about 130M transactions in Q2 2026; over $1T moved through Safe in total.
- Safenet, launched in beta in April 2026, has outside validators check each transaction before it runs.
- In Feb 2025 attackers hacked a Safe{Wallet} developer's machine and stole about $1.5B from Bybit.
Technical approach
The wallet is a program, not a key
A Safe is a contract that holds funds and only moves them when enough listed owners sign, such as 3 of 5. Losing one key loses nothing.
Modules and guards
Add-ons can allow other ways to spend (spending limits, recovery) or block transactions that break rules, without changing the core code.
One audited core, many copies
Each Safe is a tiny proxy pointing to one shared, formally verified contract, which keeps deployment cheap and the trusted code small.
Checks before signing
Safenet adds independent validators that test each transaction against security rules; the account refuses ones they have not approved.
