- A planned merger with Sugon, its largest shareholder, was called off in Dec 2025.
Technical approach
x86 chips from an AMD licence
Its server CPUs grew from AMD's Zen design licensed in 2016, so standard x86 software runs on them; the C86-5G now has 128 cores.
GPU-style DCUs for AI and science
DCUs are general-purpose parallel processors with high-bandwidth memory, handling AI and double-precision scientific work.
Familiar programming model
Its DTK software stack follows AMD's ROCm, close to Nvidia's CUDA, so PyTorch and other code ports with little change.
Own interconnect chips
Hygon designs PCIe and scale-up switches so many CPUs and DCUs can be linked into large clusters, an NVLink-style alternative.
