The brief
- Figure 02 worked about 11 months at BMW Spartanburg. Figure 03 arrived there in June 2026.
- All its AI is in-house: Helix (Feb 2025), Helix 02 (Jan 2026) and Helix 2.5 (Sep 2026).
- BotQ went from 1 robot a day (Jan 2026) to 1 an hour (Apr 2026). First line: 12,000 robots a year.
Technical approach
All-electric body designed in-house
In-house electric actuators instead of hydraulics. Figure 03's run about 2x faster than Figure 02's, and the robot is 9% lighter.
Touch-sensing fingertips and palm cameras
Fingertips feel forces as small as 3 grams. A camera in each palm sees what the fingers hide while grasping.
Helix: slow thinking, fast moving
A big AI model reads the scene a few times a second. A small, fast one moves the joints 200 times a second.
Designed for volume at BotQ
Figure 03 uses cast, moulded and stamped parts instead of machined ones, so it has far fewer parts and assembly steps.

Open technical problems
- Reliability over whole shiftsActive research
Factories need robots that run whole shifts with few human rescues. How often Figure's robots break down is not public.
- Working in unseen homesActive research
Every home is different. Figure says Helix 2.5 worked in 30 unseen homes, but doing so reliably is still unsolved.
- Safety near peopleOpen
Safety rules for balancing robots beside people are still being written. A 2025 lawsuit by Figure's ex-safety head made it public.
