Current obstacles

Fast-charging buildout lags rivalsMost of its network is slower AC ports, and big fast-charging operators often buy other makers' hardware. Express must win those buyers over.
Cash and debtAbout $96M cash against $237M of debt (July 2026) limits how fast it can push new hardware while still losing money.

Physics limits

Batteries, not chargers, cap charging speedMost cars accept peak power only at low charge and taper as cells fill, to avoid lithium plating and heat. A 600 kW port rarely delivers 600 kW to today's cars.
Grid connections are slow and costlySeveral fast ports draw as much power as a small factory. New transformers and utility upgrades can take years, which is why sites add batteries to smooth peaks.
Heat in the cable and electronicsLosses rise with the square of current, so high-power cables need liquid cooling and converters need careful thermal design, adding cost and failure points.

How it works

Power cabinet

One compact cabinet, power shared

Express Solo sends all 600 kW to one car or splits it in any mix across up to four (two more via an extra dispenser), so sites add ports, not cabinets.

DC link

Solar and batteries plug in directly

The cabinet takes DC input, so on-site solar and batteries feed it without extra conversion. A battery can top up a weak grid connection at peak.

Omni Port

One cable for both plug types

At rest the CCS plug sits inside a NACS adapter. The station releases the bare plug or the plug with adapter, picked in the app or on screen, so any EV fits.

Cloud

Software runs every port

Hosts set prices and access, balance power across ports and get fault alerts; drivers find, start and pay for sessions in one app.

ChargePoint makes EV chargers and the cloud software that runs them, and sells both to businesses, fleets and cities that own the stations. It manages about 422,000 ports, mostly in North America and Europe, and has started shipping a 600 kW fast charger built with Eaton.
