Xanadu unveils Aurora, a modular networked photonic quantum computer
In Nature, Xanadu described Aurora, a scale model of a photonic quantum computer built from 35 chips in four rack-mounted modules networked over 13 km of optical fiber. It generated a cluster state spanning separate chips and ran a simple error-correcting code with real-time decoding, showing key building blocks for fault tolerance.
- Aurora: 12-qubit machine with 35 photonic chips, 13 km fiber, room-temperature operation.
- Demonstrated cluster state across modules; error-correcting code with real-time decoding validating fault-tolerance approach.
- Scalable architecture could extend to thousands of racks and millions of qubits as a quantum data center.
