Wisk buys software-verification firm Verocel to support certifying Generation 6's flight software

Wisk AeroWisk Generation 6

Wisk acquired Verocel, a 25-year-old software verification and validation firm, along with about 60 staff to support certifying Generation 6's autonomous flight software to safety standards. Because Generation 6 flies itself with only ground supervision, exhaustive software verification is critical before FAA certification.

  • Verocel specializes in DO-178C certification standards governing safety-critical airborne software
  • Verocel's VeroTrace toolset helps track software development and verification through regulatory approval
  • Generation 6 aircraft designed to operate autonomously with minimal human control, requiring highest software integrity
  • Acquisition price not disclosed by either company
