Universal Music settles with Udio and licenses it to build an AI music platform
Universal Music Group settled its copyright lawsuit against Udio and signed recording and publishing licences. The two plan a subscription platform for 2026 where users customise, stream and share music in a licensed environment. Until then Udio's current app stays up, with creations kept inside a walled garden.
- First settlement between a major label and an AI song generator.
- Udio will add fingerprinting and filtering before relaunch.
- The other majors were still pursuing claims against Suno at the time.
- Labels had also accused Udio of scraping YouTube videos for training; Udio moved to dismiss.
